My dad was taken into Dumfries hospital after having a fall and being found unconscious.
My cousin left word with staff that they should be contacted if my father was being discharged. I also asked to be informed of a discharge.
I phoned the hospital at 6. 30pm to see how my dad was only to be told he had been sent home on his own and with nobody informed. When asked about his medicating the nurse said he was a level c and would have been sent home with his medication. When I pointed out level c meant he wasn't to have access to his medication she became flustered and said that the carers would give him it at tea time. I called my dad at 7pm and the carers hadn't been yet and he had lost his medication. I should add that my dad has dementia. I had to phone my cousin to go round to find his medication.
To send an elderly man home alone with dementia with his own medication who has in the past taken double doses is unacceptable. Especially when staff have been asked to inform relatives.
