"Roux en Y gastric Bypass"

About: Royal Shrewsbury Hospital

In december 2013, i was lucky enough to have gastric by-pass surgery which was carried out in the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, I found the hospital to be first class, clean, welcoming, the staff were very caring, considerate and were only to happy to help you should you request it. My surgery was completely explained to me, the pros and cons were 'spelt out in laymans terms, never did i experience an 'us and them' scenario, the day of my surgery came the aneathetist and doctor came to see me also the consultants nurse chattted to me about the surgery, asking if i had any concerns etc, calming my nerves, wonderful department, the surgery was completely successful, I followed instructions to the letter from the consultants team to enhance my recovery and I am happy to say that I have lost over 5st I have alot more weight to lose, but the surgery has changed my life, i'm the lightest i've been in 15 years. I believe that the care attention and information I received from the staff at this hospital is second to none. Thank you. NHS is one of the most precious assets the United Kingdom has, long may it continue, and also funding for obesity I feel should be seen as important.

Dear Rosina That sounds like wonderful news. It is great to hear that you are so pleased after your surgery and that it is delivering the benefits you were hoping for. It is also lovely to receive such glowing feedback about the team who provided your care at the Royal Shewsbury Hospital - how the team were "caring and considerate", how they explained things clearly, asking if you had any concerns, and calming your nerves. That certainly sounds like the type of experience I would want if facing surgery. There are also some really important messages here about (a) making sure that you have clear instructions from your doctor about what to do following surgery and (b) making sure you follow them. This can be really crucial to the success of your operation ... and since both of these things happened in your case it sounds like it is all having the desired effect. Well done to you. I have written your feedback onto one of our Thank You cards (well, most of it as the card wasn't quite big enough) and either I, or a colleague from the Board or Executive Team, will share this with the team (you can see a picture of the card at http://twitter.com/sathAdrianO/status/435842826279342080). Thanks again for taking the time and trouble to share this with us. Adrian Osborne Communications Director
