"Mixed care during miscarriage"

I attended my antenatal dating scan in the MDAU. After being shown our baby and told there was a heartbeat the sonographer spent a long time scanning me. She then told us that actually there wasn't a heartbeat.

A second opinion was offered but then was told no one was available. I insisted and someone was found. We were them taken to the quiet room, some leaflets were given to us and we were sent on our way with the highly inappropriate words of "be brave" from our sonographer. I was distraught and was left with very little information on what would happen.

The next day I managed to contact EPAU who were great in their treatment of me. They got me in that afternoon and organised a bed for my operation as quickly as possible. I requested my photographs from my scan the previous day and found out that instead of printing them and putting them in my notes the sonographer had deleted them. This made a difficult situation even harder and I had nothing to remember my lost baby by.

I attended Daisy ward in the treatment centre a few days later. All staff there were very kind and caring. I was treated well by everyone I came into contact with and the surgeon spoke to me before and after my operation and answered my questions.

The EPAU and Daisy ward staff were all excellent, unfortunately the poor level of care I received from MDAU has left me with a negative feeling about my overall treatment and the mistakes that were made.
