"excellent standard of care"

My 89 year old father in law Maurice Poole had been ill in Calow hospital for over 10 weeks. moved into 4 different wards and shown no compassion or care.. But that is another matter which I intend to take further in time. But the last 4days of his life was spent on the Sherwood Ward at Bolsover hospital the difference was amazing... Every member of staff in every role made him feel welcome and cared for. He was so ill we knew he wouldn't be coming home, but the staff made him so comfortable. .they would speak to him by name hold his hand and stroke his head... I have Never come across such a caring team ever before....and the term team is what it was, they all worked together to give their best to every patient and clearly love the job. .they also made us feel welcome and we knew we could ask anything without being considered to be a nuisance, which in turn made the last few difficult days easier to bare... My husband stayed with his dad day and night for the last few days and they treated him with compassion.. Sadly Maurice died on the Tuesday night but we were all there with him and the staff were very supportive throughout ( especially staff nurse who even stayed beyond her shift time to prepare Maurice... I cannot put into words the gratitude we feel for the days of amazing care given by all on Sherwood Ward.. Donations were made at Maurice' s funeral in lieu of flowers which I will be bringing to the ward very soon when I also hope to be able to thank the staff personally ... regards Roxane Poole
