"Poor attitude from Doctor"

About: Whipps Cross University Hospital

Had to take my Mother in Law into Whipps on Sunday 16th February as she was suffering from severe upper leg pains - she is 76. After an assessment from the 111 line we were told to go to Whipps and an appt would be booked for 4pm. Initial assessment was brilliant - we were seen quite quickly, waited about 30 minutes, the staff were efficient and helpful. The Dr was very kind and very mannered. He thought that my mother should have an xray for her leg so she was taken to the Minors unit. Again after being assessment politely, she was taken to xray. As she was unable to walk she was in a wheelchair. We had to go back as no form was given to us. So we go back to the Minors ward where we are told to wait as we would be taken back down very shortly. We keep asking nurses and staff to no avail. No-one comes by to check on us to see what is going on. Two hours later, a doctor finally comes into the cubicle. She immediately starts by telling us that she should have been told that Mum was here, and they she has to assess Mum to decide what she needs. I point out that she has already been assessed and we were told to wait for an x-ray at this cubicle, and we have been waiting for some time. Her attititude was very negative and rude at this point and she says to me 'Can I assess her first before deciding what to do?' quite aggressively. A nurse later comes in and gives Mum some painkillers. Later the porter asks if Mum can walk and go in the wheelchair which she does with pain. At the xray, the lady then tells us that as Mum requires a hip and femur x-ray she will need to be on a bed, and we need to transfter her to one. After finally taking the x-rays, we are taken back to the Minor ward in cubicle 4. The time is now 6.45pm. After waiting and constantly asking for assistance, and when is the doctor going to see us, given the wrong information, no-one checking in on Mum, the previous doctor finally comes to see us after my sister in law goes along and asks her directly what is going on. At this point I am very annoyed, as I felt there was total lack of communication. If the area was very busy and there was a lot of commotion going on I truely could understand. From what I could see, the doctor was sitting down at her desk in front of the computer in the time we were waiting. I ask the nurses at the desk for the surname of the doctor, as at the time I only had her first name. None of the nurses would give me her surname, as they stated none of them knew what it was?! I found that quite incredulous, and was told to ask her myself. I responded that I would, but the Dr had come and told us that she had to check the x-rays as they were unclear (?!).The time is now 8.30pm. When the doctor returns her attitude is totally different. I thinks she realises she has totally forgotten about us and tries to make amends - shame we had to wait 4 hours. If she had shown that attitide at the beginning it would have make a huge difference to .
