"Rotherham surgeons: please wait to explain things till after we've recovered from the anaesthetic"

Why do doctors come and tell you how your surgery went while you are still under the influence of a general anaesthetic? I wasn't fully conscious when the registrar gave me a run down of the results of my surgery so I couldn't take all the information in. When the consultant saw me later and I asked her to explain what had been done she said ' didn't the registrar explain?' She seemed really surprised that I needed a further explanation, even when I said that I had only been semi- conscious during the registrar's visit. Doctors/surgeons/consultants, please be aware that we mere mortals do not always understand what you are saying when we are fully awake so how are we expected to when we are half asleep?
