"Poor communication and poor care"

About: Cannock Chase Hospital

My mother is at present a patient on Oak Ward. There is a lack of communication regarding her treatment by the nursing staff to her and our family. I am appalled to hear that my Mother was told not to get out of bed to use the commode during the night, and that she is left without a drink at night, eapecially as she has been told by her renal consultant that she must drink regularly and urinate frequently. Also when patients have visitors, why do staff 'want/need' to interrupt the visit by asking the patient if they wish to go to bed, surely this could be asked once visiting is finished? These are to name a few things that we as a family are not happy with, and feel the sooner she goes home the better for her. I am a health professional with 37 years experience, and I am not impressed by the standard of care I have seen or been told about by my family.

I am so sorry to hear that you are concerneed about the care your mother is receiving on Fairoak Ward at Cannock Hospital. I have shared your concerns with Sister Banks who requests that you contact her as soon as possible to discuss this further. Sister Banks can be contacted on 01543 576045.

Alternatively, if you prefer to discuss this outside of the clinical area, please call the patient experience team on 08000721646
