"Appalled by my mother's lost test results"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - City Campus / Breast surgery

(as a relative),

My mother is receiving treatment for breast cancer at Nottingham city hospital. The op went well, but, despite being told before the surgery that the tumor was hormone responsive, since the op we have been told we are waiting for test results, to see if Herceptin would be of use. We went to the oncology clinic 2 weeks ago, and were told that the results weren't back, but would be in 7 days. We went for another appointment today, and, despite the promises the results still weren't back. In fact it seems the sample had been lost, and was lost when we were promised a result 2 weeks ago.

Added to this, every appointment so far has been with a different doctor, and all seem to have a different story about the type of tumor and the possible treatment, ie. would chemo be effective. Most seem not to have read the folder of notes in their hand, and ask us questions they should know the answer to, eg have you started chemo yet?

The doctor today was particularly defensive, and agreed that the service was 'disappointing' but refused to apologise.

This has now carried on for weeks. My mother is incredibly worried, and very nearly at her wits' end. I am disgusted!
