What I liked
The very small number of individuals who have retained their professionalism and have avoided falling prey to the institutional decay that has set into Warrington hospital.
What could be improved
We have been unfortunate to have had to use this hospital on numerous occasions over the last year or so, and during this time every visit has been truly miserable. Cleanliness is poor with little or no proper attention to hygiene. Attitudes of staff are in the majority very poor with patients treated as a nuisance. The excuse of poor funding or "too busy" is used all the time, while staff seem to spend most of their time standing around gossiping. Mistakes are frequent and potentially serious unless a close eye is kept by the patient. Medical knowledge is often poor and outdated (at all levels) and the patient is ignored and even insulted when they offer information that has been left out of the notes. There have been at least two occasions where in my opinion the actions of the staff would have resulted in serious risk or potentially death if we had not stuck to our guns and refused to do as they instructed. Registrars are frightened of contacting consultants at night for fear of getting into trouble even when a consultant is appropriate to the seriousness of the situation. There are posters and signs everywhere warning patients that abuse will not be tolerated but this does not seem to apply to staff when dealing with the patients.
Anything else?
No one is in charge and the lunatics have taken over the asylum - this hospital needs a root and branch overhaul with new staff from better hospitals placed in charge of all areas to put a stop to the culture of mistreatment and apathy.
"The very small number of individuals ..."
