"Phlebotomy Department"

About: Darent Valley Hospital

I booked an appointment to have some blood taken at DVH and was petrified. Needles are a huge phobia of mine. I went to the reception at the department and before the lady behind the desk could open her mouth I had burst into tears in fear. She was incredibly kind and sympathetic and arranged for me to be seen straight away. A lovely nurse (I wish I had got her name, but fear and anxiety took over) was incredibly good and calmed me down and even made me smile during the blood test. She found a vein straight away, which is unheard of for me, and I barely felt the needle go in, which to me indicates a very good phlebotomist. I would like to thank the department for being so reassuring and understanding to my phobia and treating me so well. You really made my day and maybe next time, I might not be so scared to have a blood test. Thank you ladies.

To read this review on our hospital was absolutely wonderful because everything you have described is exactly what we strive for. Fear is an extremely strong and real emotion and the fact that our staff recognised this and acted so well is brilliant. Commenting that this experience “made your day” can only mean how right we got it. As you have said, hopefully if you do require any future blood tests you will now reflect on this experience and how positive it was. With best wishes The Communication Team Darent Valley Hospital
