"Blood testing protocol at my local medical centre"

About: Swanswell Loughborough

(as a service user),

I am in drug treatment and I was advised to have a blood test for Hep a, b and c and HIV. I attempted to book an appointment with a nurse at reception. However, I was advised that only the Dr can request the test.

I stated that my drug worker (who works at the surgery in shared care) had advised I need the test. However, this made no difference.

I feel this kind of procedure is a waste of the Drs valuable time. As the patient I knew what I wanted. Surely once the appointment was made with the nurse I could have told her what test I needed?

Hello MV and thank you very much for this feedback.

Testing for Hep a, b and c and HIV is really important and can be a difficult decision to make to have the test so I am sorry that you have experienced unnecessary difficulty in booking into have the test done at your GP practice.

Whist we cannot account for what happened at your GP practice, I will take this issue forward to our Clinical Governance Forum so that we address this issue with GP's and make sure there is a really simple process in each surgery moving forward. I'd like to get some more information from you so I can confidentially address this issue with your GP practice. If you are happy to do this, please give me a call on 01788 559400 or alternatively you call Richard Maunders (Operations Manager at Loughborough) on 0300 303 5000.

I hope that this has been resolved but if it wasn't we can do this for you quickly. You can ask your substance misuse worker to get you booked in for a screening themselves or call to speak to Richard Maunders who will arrange for you to be booked in with one of our nurses.

I look forward to hearing from you and I'll post when I have followed up with the clinical governance forum.

Thanks

Jo Woods - Director of Eastern Region
