After a previous traumatic birth experience a couple of years ago (at SRH, unfortunately, complaints were made and dismissed at the time so I was very nervous this time!) I was desperate for the birth of my second, and last, child to be calm, tranquil and to remain in control. I'm pleased to say that, despite a delay of 7 hours while waiting for my planned section, I felt that overall I had a very positive experience. Staff were kind and caring, breastfeeding support was available where needed and even the food was edible! My only criticism is for the staffing levels. I was placed on the post-natal ward after spending time in HDU due to pressures on the delivery suite. The ward had only 1 midwife on duty at night, with staff nurses pulled from other, totally unrelated areas of the hospital to 'make up the numbers' of qualified staff. This was wholly unacceptable, had I needed breastfeeding support during the night there is absolutely no way that one midwife could've provided me with the help I needed and get her other duties done. Luckily my baby seemed to already be a pro feeder and I didn't need any help!
"Exactly what I wanted!"
