"An absolute joke, deferred two appts, then..."

About: Leighton Hospital

I seriously would consider going to another hospital if you were asked which hospital you prefer. In August 2013, after suffering with stomach & bowel issues for a number of years, the doctor thought its time to refer me to a hospital. They did so, and in September I received an appointment for November which I duly attended. It was decided to attempt medicine to correct this issue, before going down other routes. I was given the appointment and told that the follow up would be 8 weeks, where they would decide what to do then. Please remember that this was November. My appt was meant to be Jan 20th. 48hrs before (on the sat before the Monday morning), I receive a letter, saying due to circumstances, I've been deferred to the 24th Feb. Annoyed and still in pain, and with the problem getting worse, I thought oh well. They couldn't change it when I called, but assured me it would go ahead. So today how annoying to receive a letter, stating that they have no option but to cancel the appt on feb 24th, and at this time they cannot offer a new appointment but will write to me soon! and then cancel that one. I'd quite like to know why it has they have deferred me, and then cancelled it outright. To be fair my doctor is equally as disgusted with this hospital, and is seconding my complaint letter sent today. She has also done a referral to a hospital that will actually deal with the problem. Fobbing me off with medicine is not good in the longrun, and Leighton, if your ever reading this, should there be any new problems with my health relating to the length of time ive been on these meds, I will be bringing a civil case against you for medicinal damages. (nhs say 4 weeks max, ive been on these 3 months longer and i'm back to square one, so will be a lot longer).

I would like to apologise for the multiple cancellations of your appointments and agree that this is not acceptable. The way in which appointments are booked is changing so that in the future there should be fewer cancellations as appointment dates and times will not be issued until 6 weeks prior to the clinic taking place. Could you please contact the Customer Care Team at Leighton hospital on 01270 612410 so that your individual circumstances can be looked at in more detail Many Thanks Denise Tokely-McNicholas Service Manager - Emergency Care
