"Mothers treatment"

About: Wishaw General Hospital / Medical Oncology

(as a relative),

Whilst in Wishaw General ward 7 suffering from cancer. My mother fell and split her head in a toilet. She was later found after twenty minutes.

The attitude of some of the nurses, was an utter disgrace. Some of them seemed more interested in gassing about nights out and weekend plans than my mum. If I asked for information I was told oh I don't know or she is fine. My mum deteriorated so fast in that ward. In my opinion the treatment was a disgrace.

I thought empathy, dignity and level of care was lacking. Shame on them. Another nurse asked my mum to see her glasses after a patients had went missing. Her manner was a disgrace as well.

Dear alybeat,

I was very concerned to read your concerns about the care of your mother in Ward 7 at Wishaw Hospital.

This level of care and communication from nursing staff is completely unaceptable.

In order to be able to investigate/ deal with and improve services in this area, it would be most helpful if you could contact Gillian Corbett the Head of Nursing at Wishaw Hospital to discuss this further. She is contactable on 01698-366001.

I have already spoken to Gillian about the concerns that you have raised and I know that she wants to discuss this further with you and the staff in this ward. This would allow us to take action to improve services in the future.

I apologise that your mother had such a poor experience of our care and I hope that you will feel able to discuss this with us more fully.

Kind regards

Rosemary Lyness
