"Excellent care but long wait for transport at Leeds General Infirmary"

About: Leeds General Infirmary Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust

(as a relative),

My husband has spent 2 periods in hospital at the Leeds General Infirmary recently - one of 5 weeks and one of 4 weeks and the treatment he has received has been excellent, especially since the wards were understaffed.

He has also had to attend outpatients several times of late. Each time I have said he needs to travel in his own wheelchair and needed two men to lift him out of the house. Each time (three in all) only one man has been sent and has had, with great difficulty, to move him into a seat. This will be easier from now, as we have ramps in place into the bungalow. However, we will still need to have an ambulance which can accommodate his own wheelchair.

Each time we have had to wait hours for transport home, which means we have been away from home for up to 6 hours. As I am diabetic, this too is a problem.

Thank you for your comments I am pleased to hear that the services commissioned by NHS Leeds were of a high standard and your husband's care was excellent. I will certainly pass on your comments to the team concerned. If you would like Leeds General Infirmary's Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) to help liaise with yourselves and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service to try and resolve the issues you experienced with transport, please do contact them on 0800 0525 270, or by email.
