"very disappointed with Mcmillan nurse"

About: Pilgrim Hospital

From diagnosis to passing away (4 weeks) members of my family visited every day and for the last week all day and all night. During this time we were told a particular McMillan nurse was handling my mum's care, however, she spoke only twice on the phone (we called her)to family members and my Dad saw her once, right at the beginning of diagnosis. We did request her attendance in my mother's room, however, although we were told she would see my Mum Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, we never saw her. The care however from the staff on Ward M2 was excellent and we could not have asked for more.

Dear Lynn

So sorry to hear about your mum. I am not actually a MacMillan Nurse but a Gynae Oncology Nurse that is part of the Gynae Multi Disciplinary Team. I am pleased to hear that the the care your mum recevied on M2 was excellent and I have passed your comments to the ward staff.

Your mum was seen by us every day and I spoke to you and husband on a number of occasions, but unfortunately some family visited in the evening when I was not on duty. I did ask your mum several times if she wanted me to speak to you and your family but she didnt want me to. I was not aware of any requests from you or your family to see me, if I had then I would have come to see you.

Regards

Stephanie Palmer, Gynaecology Oncology Advanced Nurse Practitioner
