"Lack of care and consideration given"

About: William Harvey Hospital (Ashford) / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I had trouble breathing due to a large thyroid cyst. I was due to have it surgically removed in late February. I also had an urgent appointment to have it aspirated at the start of the week but due to the breathing problems, my GP said if it got worse to go to A&E.

When I eventually saw the surgeon in A&E I was told that my cyst was very small and that it could not cause pressure on the windpipe. Although I attempted to raise my point I was told that there was nothing medical wrong with me and that it was only anxiety for the up coming surgery.

I was then left to wait for blood test results. After nearly 2 hours I was told the tests has been back for some time but I had been forgotten about. This time the surgeon did not take me into a cubicle but spoke to me in the hallway where people were walking by. I was told the surgeon had spoken to my consultant, which I later found was incorrect. I asked if my scans or past history had been looked at, for which I was told no. Again I was told there is nothing wrong with me and shown the door.

I am quite outraged at the lack of care and consideration given. My cyst displaces the windpipe and artery in the neck. This information was easily available in the scan reports.
