"Dave Moment Ward 4 Neurosurgical Unit HRI 04-02 to..."

About: Hull Royal Infirmary

I was referred to HRI having been diagnosed with spinal stenosis after an MRI scan. I was seen by a consultant who talked me through the operation procedure and made me feel at ease and in no doubt about the procedure or the risks involved, plain speaking and much appreciated. I was admitted to ward 4 at 8-30pm the day before the operation and the staff all made me feel welcome put me at ease. The following morning about 6-30am after not too bad a night considering my own apprehension, I was told I was first down for surgery, the consultant then visited me to make sure I was aware and wanted to proceed with the opp.I was then visited by another guy, who I was told later had been the surgeon who would do the job. They really spoke my language and left me in no doubt That I was being treated by the best there is. Everyone I came into contact with, introduced themselves with their first names and made me feel far more than just a NHS number, I felt that they did indeed care, which they all did. the procedure L4/5 interlaminar decompression 2 L4/5 Bilateral Discectomy 3 Bilateral L5 Nerve Root Decomression was done at 8-45am and I woke in the recovery room at 12-45pm and returned to ward4 at about 1-30pm rang home at 2-00 and walked without help (but observed) to the toilet at 2-30pm, feeling really good. the operation did what it said on the tin and its given me back my legs. The treatment I received couldn't be improved everyone treated me with respect and if you are reading this because you have surgery imminent and have a feeling of apprehension, please don't be scared the whole team are angels believe me, the whole team care about you. Thanks to you all for making my stay with you as pleasant as it possibly could have been. Grateful Thanks Dave Moment
