My mum went into this hospital with cancer, but she didn’t come out. It’s a long story, but I would like you all to know the way that a nurse spoke to me and told me that my mother had passed away. I phoned to see where my mum would go when she came out of surgery, I had spoken to the doctor but this was when he told me that mum was to go to surgery. Nobody phoned me to say that she had passed away, so I phoned not aware that she had died and wanted to know where to go. I had had a dispute with this nurse before, as mum had been in there a while. As she was supposed to be being discharged on the day this happened, I asked where will mum go when she comes out of surgery, will she go back on Barclay ward or to the critical care unit. She said have you spoken to the doctors, I said yes, she said you will be going to the mortuary then. Why would I be asking where my mum would be going when she comes out of surgery, if I new that she had died? There were other things that happened, and its horrible because at the end of the day it will be my word against hers, but I do have people that were there with me and I couldn’t just have made that up on the spot. I hope PALS record their phone calls. It’s also horrible to think that people like her have jobs like this people on those wards need looking after, not shouting at.
