"Reasons for actions - NHS Direct"

About: NHS Direct NHS Trust

(as a staff member),

I came across your site completely by accident. I was interested in users' experiences of using NHS Direct.

If we are to be honest and open and trusted by service users, the first step is to acknowledge that sometimes things do not go according to plan. I am proud to be able to say that I have been a part of NHS Direct's feedback and investigation processes and feel that we give a transparent and quality service to users who report causes for concern.

With regard to a recent posting on this site from a person who contacted NHS Direct following an episode of self harm, the nurses do have a duty of care to patients who may be at risk from self harm due emotional or mental health issues. The nurse in this instance will have been trying to act in the best interest of the caller who in fairness had contacted NHS Direct for help.

I would like to assure the caller that if they contact NHS Direct (address for feedback located on the web site) they can be assured of a full investigation and feedback on why such action was taken with any lessons learnt and actions taken.
