"Unsatisfactory treatment in Intensive Care at QMC"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I am the carer to someone who was a patient in Intensive Care at the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham for the treatment of a broken hip joint. I was most impressed by how quickly they were treated - from being admitted until when they came out of the operation, it took less than a day.

However, Intensive Care is no place for a person who suffers with dementia. Medication pills were left with the patient, who had no idea why she was in hospital, let alone what she was supposed to do with the pills given to her.

Also, the food was left for the patient, but with no-one to feed her, the food was left untouched and then taken away by the staff, who did not give any thought to why the patient was not eating ANYTHING. This only went in when I went in to feed the patient.
