"The medical care was excellent ..."

About: Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital NHS Trust HQ

(as a relative),

What I liked

The medical care was excellent & beyond question.

What could be improved

I found it hard to believe that as a centre of excellence in heart medicine they allow the kitchens to create such (heart) unhealthy options for patients. Privatisation of the catering no doubt...

Thank you for your comments. It is always a pleasure to receive positive comments from our patients and we are pleased you were happy with the medical care and treatment you received.

With respect to your comment regarding the hospital providing the patients with unhealthy meals - the hospital does provide a choice of meals from a healthy, well balanced menu. Following illness or surgery the body needs extra nutrients to recover and the meals provided in hospital therefore include a variety of food with high calorie options e.g. chips, sausages which patients are previously told to avoid. This food can be eaten during the recovery as part of a healthy balanced diet and will help to ensure adequate energy intake whilst patients recover in hospital. Short term changes to diet will not cause any harm e.g. raising cholesterol. I am sorry if this was not explained to you since your admission but this has now been included in our written patient information.
