"Two years and counting"

For two years my wife has been having severe pain in lower abdomen and kidney area and has been admitted several times to Cheltenham General, sometimes a few hours after being discharged and sometimes via Gloucester at night because of the ridiculous situation with closing Cheltenham A&E at night. Admissions to A&E are always a nightmare. On her most recent admission, just three days after a cystoscopy, she was seen fairly quickly by a staff nurse for initial diagnosis but then left in the corridor, as no beds were available, for nearly four hours in horrendous pain and unable to pass water. No painkillers offered and urologyy refused to send a doctor down even though it was possible symptoms could have been as a result of their procedure three days before,saying she had to see an A & E doctor. After seeing a doctor we were then left in a room for another hour and I had to go and find the doctor to tell her she was in even more pain after eventually passing a small amount of water. Eventually she was admitted to Snowshill over six hours after her initial admission and it was then over two more hours before she was seen by a doctor who advised her she had a UTI who promptly prescribed her an antibiotic containing penicillin, even though she is allergic to it. So what was all that about !! Unable to take those she was left in more pain until painkillers eventually given. She was then advised that until micro biology had identified the nature of the infection she could not be given an antibiotic. This took three days. Early on the third day she was advised by doctor she could be prescribed antibiotics but as I write early afternoon, her prescription has still not been signed and she has been asked to move to day room as they need the bed. They even proposed sending her home and having to call back later to collect the prescription. How do they know how she will react to these new antibiotics, last time the new antibiotics and the strength of dose made her ill and she was readmitted within twelve hours very poorly again. She should have been kept in for observation for twenty four hours in my view. This is just the tip of the iceberg, her treatment over the two years has been unprofessional in my view.
