My personal experience of Medway hospital has been many, most of which have been bad. The newest was yesterday. I was given an appointment to get the results of a biopsy taken after a scan. I was collected by Hospital transport with a driver and attendant, because I am disabled and in constant pain. On seeing the Registrar of Mr Davis I was told that my results weren't through yet. What a complete waste of resources. I was told that I would be given another appointment from 7 to 10 days. As this clinic is only held every Wednesday, if it's not seven days then it will be 14 which is a long time to find out if you have cancer or not. It just adds to the stress and my pain because of the travelling.
Other times - after supposed to being on a heart monitor all night, the night staff had turned off the machine because it was disturbing the other patients. It was unplugged at the wall. Last year I was in hospital and I had the medication of the patient in the next bed on my drug sheet. I was constantly being given sugared water because my blood sugar kept getting too low. They seemed to have no idea what needs to be given to Diabetics.
It seemed to be the cleaners who gave out the meals and they apparently gave out what they liked. I needed more carbohydrates but it was shocking if I asked for brown bread instead of white. The general training of the staff seemed to be lacking as the drug cupboard was left wide open for many hours.
The Diabetic nurse who was doing the rounds of the diabetics on the ward, was going to miss me as she didn't even know I was a diabetic. During the nurses changeover, the new nurses were told that I'd had a good night when I had a temperature which they knew about and hadn't asked me how I felt all night as no one came near me. My hair was wet and so was the bed from the temperature.
These are only some of the things that have happened to me without the things I have seen regarding other people. No wonder Medway is known locally as a joke. I am too scared to be admitted to Medway and hope I can go to William Harvey instead. The great nurses are wonderful but unfortunately don't compensate for the bad ones.
