"The long, long wait for X-Ray results."

About: Kidderminster Hospital

After seeing my GP and being referred for an X-Ray on my knee (for which I had been suffering pain from for 2 months) I then had to wait 3 weeks for my appointment to come through. Although I have to say that when I rang to make the appointment they were very accommodating and I got in within a few days. When I had my X-ray there were hardly any other patients around but a lot of staff, doing a lot of chatting. I was told the results should be through within 10 days, so I booked my appointment with my GP on the 11th day. I rang my GP's surgery on the day to check they had received the results and they had not. I rang the Imaging Department at the hospital and it was confirmed that they hadn't been done yet. when I explained that I had an appointment with my GP that afternoon I was told that they would have a "word" with the secretary to get them sent over that day. I checked with my surgery again about an hour before my appointment and they still had not received the results. I again rang the Imaging Department and it was again confirmed that they hadn't been sent, but again, they would have a "word" to see if they could be sent over. I told them it was too late now and I was going to have to cancel my appointment as there was no point in going with no results. I find it astonishing that it should take over 11 days to get someone's results to their GP. I now have to wait another week for a late appointment with my GP because unfortunately I have to work and arrange appointments around my job. Therefore, it is yet another week of suffering the pain. So since being referred for an X-ray, it has it will have been over 6 weeks before I can get my results and discuss my treatment with my GP. Disgusting! Therefore, I have just got to wait for these people to do the jobs that they are paid to do in the time they feel like doing it. Maybe if they were in pain it would be a different matter. Absolutely disgraceful.

We are very sorry to hear of your experiences with regard to your recent knee x-ray. I would like to investigate this fully, and if you could contact me directly, I could undertake a detailed analysis to see what went wrong. My email address is david.hill@worcsacute.nhs.uk.
