On 4th January I attended the Victoria Unit with my wife for tests. We were both anxious about the possible diagnosis. However, the reception staff were friendly and welcoming. The specialist nurse practitioner put us at ease and explained the tests that were going to be conducted as well as the likely timescale, (which the appointment letter had outlined). The practitioners who processed the mammogram also the ultra sound scan were equally reassuring and informative about the tests they were undertaking. Fortunately we were informed by the ultra sound & nurse practitioners that the tests were clear. As a retired social worker/counsellor & my wife a psychology teacher we were impressed by the homely caring atmosphere provided by this specialist clinic. It is clearly an outstanding service that recognises the stress and anxiety that patients are likely to feel. It addresses female health in a sensitive manner and includes male partners with similar care. We did not consider the time scale between the appointment then tests & result to be too lengthy. This approach has been well thought out because to have to wait for tests to be undertaken on different days and to have to wait for a period of time for the ultimate result would in our view create considerable anxiety. Well done to the Victoria Unit for having such an outstanding Unit and therapeutic approach. It is a credit to the NHS
