"Benfleet and pagelsham ward"

About: Southend Hospital

I'm discussed with the care my mother has received in both of these . My mother had a severe stroke three months ago and is still in hospital and I'm appalled at her treatment . She's been left in soiled and dirty clothes and not washed for days . Left to sit in her own excreament for forty five min after asking for her to be changed three times . She being sick two to four times a day for the last three months but no one seems concerned by this even through she lost three stone she's had three bladder infections two chest infections and after a week of telling doctors my mums constipated they finally agree . So we have to watch her going though unnecessary suffering because then they give her an enema then she couldn't stop goin mix with not being changed , left her bottom in a very sorry state . She has also told me that she's scared she's goin to choke as she coughing and being sick and she can't sit up on her own and no ones there to help in the last two days two patience a have been allowed to fall out of bed in a ward of six, this is my mums fourth fall I find this totally unexceptable as she is supposed to be specailed ( watched constantly) my mother doesn't get her medication on time and simple things like her asthma pump and pain killers r totally left out. I could go on all day , but take heed if u have a love one in either of these wards be afraid. Some of the staff are excellent . Some have such a bad attitude they shouldn't be dealing with people at all, let alone sick people

Many thanks for your comments and I am truly sorry that you are unhappy with the care your mother is receiving. I have been in touch with the stroke team who have been working closely with your mother and father since her admission. They are aware that you have concerns and the Family Liaison Volunteer has engaged with your father who we understand is satisfied with what is happening. The Volunteer would be happy to engage with you also to help you at this difficult time.

If you would like to make a formal complaint, we would be happy to help but would require your father's written consent before we could take any case forward. The family Liaison Volunteer can provide you with further details about the complaints process.
