I arrived at the St. Albans' Day Surgery Unit extremely nervous and apprehensive about my procedure but I need not have worried. I was taken to my bay by a Sister and she completely put me at ease. Within an hour of arriving I had been seen by the anaesthetist, the x-ray technician, the Registrar and Consultant, who of whom treated me with dignity and respect, explaining fully what was going to happen. My admission time had been changed a couple of days previously and this meant that there was no waiting around and I was straight into theatre an hour and a quarter after arriving. I remember the cannula going in for the sedation and then being laid on the operating table but little else, waking up in recovery about 45 minutes later. The Register came to see me to explain what they had done and what to expect in my recovery process and then I was taken back to my bay where Sthe Sister and Nurse made sure I had plenty of tea to drink and toast to eat (plus biscuits!) before my discharge at teatime. I cannot praise my Consultant, his team, the theatre and nursing staff enough for their professionalism and patient care at this wonderful unit. I had been on the St. Albans' hospital website a few days earlier to read the reviews about the Day Surgery Unit and can honestly say you deserve your five star rating!
