Having been a nurse on a ENT ward myself a few years ago I was a bit concerned about the standard of post op care. The nurses were pleasant and friendly, but obviously too busy. My partner came back from theatre after a operation on his nose and had his BP taken initially, which was very high. The nurse commented that it was too high and said she would come back to do it again. We never saw her again for 1 and half hours. His nose was oozing blood etc heavily and the fact his BP was so high was a concern. I eventually had to ask someone to come and take his BP. Which she did. She said our nurse was on an hour break. What happened to 15 minute observations etc? Someone else should have been covering her! Also after the second reading was taken, which was nearly as high, his BP was never taken again and he was discharged. My main concern is that if I hadn't of been with him he would have been alone for 1 and half hours after surgery, and for long periods after that. It is a worry. I appreciate that they are very busy and work hard, but levels of post op care are not sufficient in my opinion. Otherwise the received was very good under difficult circumstances.
"Nursing care questionable!"
