"In good hands"

About: St Mary's Hospital (Manchester)

I had my first baby at St Mary's in late November 2013. I had been planning a natural birth, preferably a water birth from a very early stage. I was privileged to have my midwife see me at my local GP surgery and a student midwife follow my pregnancy through from first trimester to delivery. I was surprised by the level of interest and care, as well as helpful advice such as the availability of aqua natal classes in my local area that the midwife was able to provide me. I found out that my baby was breech at term plus seven days. While disappointed and shocked I felt supported and cared for by the team at St Mary's from the point at which I found out, through the (unsuccessful) attempt to turn the baby through to the Caesarean section three days later, throughout my stay in hospital and several midwife visits after the birth to ensure baby was healthy and breastfeeding. I have never felt in better hands than I was during this process. The staff at St Mary's are amazing. I am in awe of this team of people and what they do every day, and I cannot thank them enough for bringing my baby safely into this world.
