"Felt like a minion on a conveyor bel"

About: Queen Alexandra Hospital

I had a very similar experience as 'theatre staff great'. In November I had scheduled Hernia Repair in Day Surgery and found the Theatre Staff and anaesthetist very kind and understanding as was the surgeon on that day. I was then transferred to ward E2. I stayed there 2 nights. On the third day I had the morphine drip mid morning then at lunch time I was informed that I was going home after lunch. Was I ready to go home - No ! At that time I had not stood up on let alone go to the toilet on my own and was still very dozy as the morphine had not worn off. I was told to get dressed and packed with no-one to help me and I was really struggling, luckily a porter arrived and helped get ready. Unfortunately I was given no advise on what if my drugs I should take, just given a hand full of dressings and some leaflets on what to do if I had problems. The porter took me to the discharge dept and left there, I was made to feel like one of the minions on a conveyor belt. At that time I was feeling absolutely terrible and could not walk at all. My husband arrived to take me home and I had to hang onto cars as I walked to our car as I was feeling so bad. Not long after we arrived home the discharge department phoned to say the ward had sent down some drugs I was to take that they had forgotten to give me. My husband went back to the hospital to collect the drugs and was also given my discharge notice which again I should have been given on the ward. The discharge nurse asked my husband if I was O.K. as I looked absolutely terrible. I progressed well for the first few weeks but things then started to go wrong. I informed my surgeon on my follow up appointment but he stated it was nothing to do with anything he had done and to go back to my GP. Things then started to get worse and I am in pain all the time so I tried to get another appointment with the surgeon and the discharge leaflet stated. I was met with a brick wall and told to present myself at A & E (thought NHS didn't want people to crowd that department) or go to my GP to get a letter which again will land me in A & E (it takes 2 weeks to get an appointment). I am now left in pain and basically intolerant to food and liquid great advertisement for the hospital !
