"Parking confusion"

About: Royal Shrewsbury Hospital

My mother was admitted to RSH, she has terminal cancer and therefore we were allowed to visit when we wanted. On the first day we visited three separate times resulting in paying for parking three times (£7.50) as we were unsure how the parking system worked. After reading the very small notice on parking guidelines it stated with multiple visits to pay on your last visit. After our second visit during the next day we proceeded to pay thinking we would be charged for 24 hrs to be told we owed just £3, therefore it had not recognised our early visit. I am now completely confused and not sure what to do in the future.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. As a result of the feedback that we have received from you and from other patients and relatives I have asked our Estates and Car Parking teams to renew their efforts to provide clear instructions about the car parking arrangements and specifically to promote the range of concessions that are available for patients and visitors. For example: - If you are likely to visit frequently over a number of days then an £8 ticket is available which will cover visits to hospital for up to 10 days. This automatically becomes better value for money if you are visiting for more than two days. More information is available from the car parking section of our website at www.sath.nhs.uk (click on "Getting To Us" at the very top of the page and then on "Car Parking" on the left hand menu - or use the direct link at http://www.sath.nhs.uk/patients-and-visitors/Getting-to-us/concessionaryticket.aspx). On this page you can find more information as well as a form you can download for a visitor's season ticket. - If you are visiting multiple times during the day then please pay after your final visit. If you have access to the web this is even simpler as there is a dedicated website at www.sathparking.co.uk where you can pay online. So, if you have visited on three separate occasions through the day you would still only be charged the maximum daily amount of £3.50 (rather than three separate visits). Please accept my apologies that you experienced confusion and frustration at an anxious time, and my expectation that your comments are leading directly to improvements that we hope will benefit you and others using the car parks. Unfortunately the NHS Choices website does not share your contact details with the Trust else I would have contacted you direct to discuss this further. Thanks again for taking the time to feedback.
