"Waiting times for results"

About: East Ayrshire Community Hospital / General Medicine University Hospital Ayr / Respiratory Medicine

(as the patient),

I was referred to a respiratory specialist in August 2013 and saw a doctor at Cumnock Hospital. I was informed I should have a ct scan plus a lung function test as it was suspected I had asbestosis. I had my ct scan and my lung function test a few weeks later, I was expecting to see the doctor in the near future but I received a letter today to say I won't be having an appointment until weeks later. I have found out from my own GP that I have asbestosis but I've not had a word or letter from the doctor I saw to confirm this. As you can only claim so far back for this disease, I think NHS Scotland needs to look into this.

Dear 'dear2074'

Thank you for using Patient Opinion to tell us about the time you are having to wait to hear for confirmation of asbestosis. This must be a very difficult time for you and this wait is certainly not helping with the anxieties that you must be faced with.

I am really sorry that this has happened.

What I have done is passed your posting onto the Health Care Manager that covers this area and when I hear back from them, I will post an update here, as soon as is possible.

Thank you again for getting in touch dear2074.

Kind regards

Kate

Update posted by dear2074 (the patient)

I,ve now had an appointment to see my respiratory doctor, it is before summer n 2014 but, I had to check the year as maybe it was for 2015. I phoned this doctors secretary to complain about the length of time it was taking, the secretary said they will try & get an earlier appointment, haven,t heard anything since.

Dear 'dear2074'

Thank you for posting your update.

Could I ask you to please email me on kate.macdonald@aapct.scot.nhs.uk with the name of your respiratory doctor? I will look into this further for you.

I would have been delighted to give you my office number, but I am not back in the office again until Thursday. I will be picking up my emails though.

Thank you dear2074, we will get this sorted for you.

Kind regards

Dear 'dear2074'

I have just been had a telephone call with Mary Urquhart, our Health Care Manager who covers respiratory.

I was delighted to hear that you have spoken with Mary and that an earlier appointment has been made for you and that she offered you advice on support available to you. I understand that Mary apologised for the time you have had to wait for the results.

I hope you have felt supported dear 2074 and that you have found using Patient Opinion a positive experience.

If I can assist further, please do get in touch either through Patient Opinion or directly to kate.macdonald@aapct.scot.nhs.uk / 01292 513607.

Kind regards

Kate
