"Sheets"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Accident & Emergency Royal Alexandra Hospital / General Medicine (wards 8, 10, 11, 14, 18 & 27)

(as a carer),

First off I would like to say the treatment my husband received in both the A & E and the wards 2 & 11 was first class. But what got me was the state of the bed linen. It looked filthy. Do they not iron any of it, after all washing ironing is next thing to help kill off bugs, I may be old fashioned but clean sheets ironed is a must.

Dear G west

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to post to Patient Opinion. I had forwarded your comments to our Linen Services Manager who has provided comments as follows:

"I have established that this is referring to the sleep knit laundry products that are used in the wards. The product is designed not to be ironed creases are removed when the product is stretched over the mattress. Implementation training on ideal bed making using the textiles was undertaken by our supplier. Despite this appearance is subjective from one ward to another. Some look very smart others look untidy. Our supplier would be pleased to offer additional training to wards and I will look into this.

A survey was conducted in August 2013 at the GRI and the RAH the vast majority of wards agreed that the softness and comfort of the sheets was better for patients. We have quality check in place in the laundry to ensure no products are returned to the sites dirty."

Once again thank you for posting to Patient Opinion.

Kind Regards

Paul Cannon
