My first experience of A&E. On the instruction of my GP (after hours) I went to A&E at GWH, expecting, according the media, chaos. My wife and I found that it was fairly busy, about half of the waiting area seating being empty. I explained my situation to the lady on reception and then took a seat and had to wait for approximately 45 minutes to be seen. I was inititially seen by a staff nurse and then a doctor. At all times my wife and I were treated in a polite, helpfull manner by all staff members. The staff nurse and doctors were informative explaining the procedures and in words that we, non medical people, could understand. Also they took time to make sure that we knew what was happening. We could not have asked for better service.
