"Day Surgery - Hysteroscopy/Polpectomy"

About: St Albans City Hospital

Attended Day Surgery for hysteroscopy/polpectomy. Superb service. Was seen promptly and led to individual screened cubicle with trolley, chair and large plastic box for belongings. Was seen by registrar, anaesthetist and nursing staff who were all excellent. Details double-checked by various staff members and ample opportunity given to ask questions. Changed into gown, compression socks and paper knickers and taken on trolley to Anaesthetic room where oxygen was given while cannula was inserted to administer the general anaesthetic. Details checked again and all questions answered. Short operation and woke up in the recovery room in gown, with pad in place for bleeding, less than an hour later. Taken back to the same screened cubicle and given hot drink, water and hot toast (biscuits if preferred). Blood pressure was checked, had discussion with discharge nurses about the op, changed back into clothes, went to loo (they need to ensure you've eaten and been to the loo before you're discharged) and waited in Discharge waiting room for lift back home. Back home four hours later. In summary, a very slick, professional and friendly service. Privacy and dignity maintained at all times. A Gold Star service.

Thank you taking the time to let us have feedback about your visit to the day surgery unit at St Albans Hospital. Please accept my apologies for the delay in replying. I was sorry to hear you needed an operation but would like to thank you for your kind and positive feedback. The doctors, nurses and other staff at the unit work very hard and I know they will appreciate your kind comments. It is good to hear everything went smoothly and that there were no complications. I'm also pleased to hear you were offered biscuits and not just toast! It's the small touches that really matter to patients. I hope you have made a full recovery and that everything is back to normal for you. Thank you again for your kind feedback. It is really appreciated. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need to. My email is antony.tiernan@whht.nhs.uk or you can call me on 01923 436 229. Alternatively, you can tweet me: @AntonyTiernan.
