"A&E visit with my elderly mum."

About: Doncaster Royal Infirmary

We visited A&E on Saturday afternoon. The department was fairly busy, but expected. We were checked in by very pleasant and helpful reception staff and waited a while in the seating area. We were then triaged by yet again very pleasant nurses and again told to wait. Nothing we did not expect up to this point. Then we were called by a doctor, this is where the problems started. My mum had an eye problem, a possible bleed into the inside of her eye. He told her to sit on the bed. The extent of his examination was to pull down her bottom eye lid, which took all if 3 seconds. He then waved his arms and told her she needed to be seen in eye clinic, this is not urgent as she may have a tomato in her eye! Yes you heard correct. I have been a nurse for over 30 years. I trained at DRI and I may say for the first time ever I am ashamed of this fact. We went back to the nice reception ladies as we were not sure what to do next? They then got us seen and my mum examined properly by another, very nice doctor. We were astounded when we were told we'd been seen by a consultant! He is the worst doctor I have ever come across in all the 35 years of nursing.
