I was refered to B14 from Bolton Royal A&E, as they could not deal with my problem there. I was seen within half an hour of arrival and everything was explained to me in order for me to be part of the decission on the next step. I did not want to be admitted, but it was the only option as I needed surgery. I was soon found a bed on B20 and put on IV antibiotics and pain medication straight away. First thing in the morning I was rolled into theatre, had surgery and then back to the ward. I had to spend another day on IV antibiotics on the ward. The staff were very friendly and compassionate, making an unpleasant situation bearable. I felt in very safe hands and treated with respect and dignity. I was allowed to make my own decissions on pain medication, and even though the prescription had a different dose, my decission of a lower dose was respected - I had a feeling that staff were aware that I would be the best judge of my pain. The promise of discharge was kept and I got great guidance on continous treatment at home.
"Making an unpleasant experience ok."
