About: Hinchingbrooke Hospital Hinchingbrooke Hospital Huntingdon PE29 6NT
I have to say the treatment in A and E was excellent. Its when i went to the wards it all went awry. I was due to have an op that night, but due to availability of the anaesthetist it had to be moved to the next morning. I had been nil by mouth, and as the op was moved I asked if i could have some food - but was only given a biscuit. When it came to the morning of the op - my consent form from the previous day had been lost, I wasn't ready for theatre when they came to collect me as no one had told me to get ready. When i got down to theatre - i was asked if my bladder had been emptied and i said no as i had not been told to. Also - i had been listed for a hip op - not my appendix so its a good job i was on the ball. I also had to sign a new consent as my original one could not be located and it was even implied I had not signed it initially when i know full well I did (as did the registrar who consented me). Back on the ward, there seemed to be some kind of power struggle going on as 2 wards had merged (or had been created - I was on the Short Stay Unit). I was opposite the nurses station and nurses / admin staff were coming in to our ward to moan about each other. Not very professional - patients have ears and we are not all out of it. A bit of discretion would have been better. I then discharged myself in the evening as I had had enough. Follow up was via phone call.. and i was given no real guidance on aftercare of my wounds. All in all cant fault the A and E and theatre staff. The wards really let the side down.
