I was recently scheduled to have surgery and could not fault the Theatre staff, the anaesthetist nor the consultant. They were great. Unfortunately, the service I then received in Day Surgery Recovery unit was not great. For some unknown reason, I took a long time to recover and I felt no sooner was I awake, I was out the door. Did I feel ready to leave - no!! Unfortunately I was also disappointed with the advice that was sadly lacking when I was discharged too. I was given some dressings but wasn't told, or at least that I can remember, when to change them or what to look out for with my wounds. No advice was given about if I couldn't cope with the pain. Sadly I did feel part of a conveyor belt and not like an individual. Ever since my surgery, I have been sick and eaten very little - is this normal - I don't know!!
