What I liked

I was admitted to the SAU on Weds 27th Aug, from the moment I was admitted onto the ward I could not praise the staff highly enough for their level of care, this included care from the nurses. I was worried, sick and very poorly and the way in which they treated me with respect, dignity and compassion is a wonderful testamnet to your nursing staff. Then the SHO and the Surgical registrar were absolubtley brilliant, their bedside manner and clinical expertise were outstanding and once again a great example of what our health service has too offer. I can't thank the nursing staff and other people involved in my care enough for making my time in hospital as comfortable and less stressful as possible, I would be most grateful if you convey my gratitude onto all concrened. What could be improved

The porcess of transfer of care between GP and A&E. I went to A&E and referall from my GP who had spoken to the surgical registrar at Hope, they had sent me with my referall letter and advised that there would not be a wait as he had already spoken to the registrar, upon arrival at the hospital(feeling quite upset at the speed of events)I reported duly to the reception, advised my Dr had spoken to the registrar and showed her my referall letter. They took my personal details and asked me to sit in the queue for the Triage nurse, after some moments waiting in pain I decided to query why I had to see the Triage when I was under the impression I had already been "assessed". Unfortunaltely I was met with a curt reply that my GP did not know the process at the hospital and that I still had to see the Triage(due to the process). I was upset because I was in so much pain and had I been explained that i would still need to see the Triage nurse even though I had had been referred I would have been much more understanding. I suppose what i am trying to suggest is that even though the reception staff know there is a set process that this is not always apparent to people arriving at the A&E dept and there are perhaps better ways to explain to people when they arrive what the procedure is(even if this was a little card with bullet points of what to expect)This would save the recptionist repeating each time what should happen.
