Due to cancer, pneumonia & severe kidney problems etc, a close relative spent most of the last year in the GHW, sadly he finally lost his battle on the 23rd Jan, during the months spent at the hospital we got to see a lot of good and some bad, for starters the parking and lifts (if all 3 work), are not good, cleanliness on some wards isn't the greatest, visiting times are inconsistent and when you do manage to get in to see your loved one you have to disappear for 20 mins while they do something, and finally A&E is like a chaotic battlefield, but generally all the medical staff put the patient first, parking usually costs around £1 an hour, which is fair, the hospital is very easy to find and to get to, it's modern and well laid out, wards and depts are easy to find, the restaurant is popular with good food at a reasonable price, there's a small shop and a costa, which is always busy, the main reason for writing this review is to sing the praise of what I feel is the best ward at GHW; Woodpecker Ward, as previously mentioned my family and I have been in most of the wards, however it's the latest visited ward that's outshone the others, yes visiting times are consistent, and the cleanliness is good but the care provided by everyone on the ward was amazing, nothing is too much trouble, the doctors actually talk to you, the nurses & sisters etc dash around like busy bee's, obviously patient care is paramount but the family visiting are also treated with compassion and care, And I'd personally like to thank three particular members of staff & the Consultant for providing truly excellent health care with a heart. Such devotion quite rightly deserves recognition.
