I recently received day surgery at Southlands for four areas of skin cancer on my back [hopefully benign]. As I expected from previous treatments, the clinical team was superb in every respect - kind, professional, and expert, despite the pressure of an operation lasting over an hour. Hence the 5 stars awarded with sincere thanks. However the process required to reach the treatment stage was lengthy and problematic. My doctors have prescribed six-monthly check-ups since my first referral some five years ago because of my propensity to develop skin cancer, but from the autumn of 2012 my appointments were postponed, usually just before the appointed date. This happened three times, the last postponement pushing me back to June 2014. This would have extended the gap between check-ups to about two years. I therefore wrote to the Dermatology consultants explaining the problem and my need for treatment. I was seen almost immediately and operated on within eight weeks. It would be pointless to speculate on the reasons for the apparently systematic postponement of my appointments - "bouncing" as my consultant termed it - but I would be interested to know how the practice features in the Hospital's general policy towards its patients.
