At the beginning of January i had to undergo a colonoscopy in the endoscopy department. It is a horrible procedure to have done but it was made so much better by the brilliant staff in this unit. From the admitting nurse to the lovely nurse who stayed with me throughout the procedure, they are all wonderful. The surgeon who carried out the procedure was excellent. Every 5 or 10 minutes he asked me if i was okay and stopped the procedure if i was in pain. It was quite a difficult procedure as i suffer from an incurable illness and was very scared beforehand despite having had colonoscopies in the past, but he was so reasurring that it made the whole procedure more bearable. The nurse who looked after me after the procedure was fantastic too and provided a much looked forward to hot chocolate and biscuit and explained the results before i left the unit. Also to have an advanced nurse practitioner on site that you can phone whenever you have a problem is invaluable as it saves you going to your GP and then having to wait to be referred to a consultant which can take a while and make the condition worse by the time that you are seen. Well done!
