What I liked
My partner suffered from bleeding in early pregnancy, she was obviously sent to the hospital to have a scan to make sure that the pregnancy was still ongoing. On the first 'emergency scan' we was told that everything appeard normal, however the report said that there was no fetal heartbeat present, which led to one of the nurses believing that my partner was no longer pregnant. The bleeding continued, obviously she was sent for a second emergency scan due to the fact that clotting showed. Luckily our baby was still there, fighting away and again we were told everything was normal and there was no sign of bleeding anywhere, and the report that was produced, well this time the baby had a heartbeat (what a relief?!) but however the report did say that 'bleeding was evident' even though we was told there was no evidence by the member of staff performing the scan. We found this experience very stressful at an already stressful time, staff did not seem to care and we felt pushed from one place to the other. Since this event my partner has been back for the normal 13 and 20 week scans the treatment we received for these scans was much better.
What could be improved
Communication with patients; scans should not be said to contain one thing and the report another? (Patients do have a tendancy to read them)
More Patient Staff relations; we found this experience stressful at an already stressful time, it would be nice for future patients to be treated better.
I am not knocking the hospital because all previous experiences have been exceptional and our treatment further on from these emergency scans was brilliant. The communication was appauling we was left feeling terrible because we did not know what was going on, which up upset us even more.
