"A vast lack in communication"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

not very happy with the service provided my partner currently on orthopaedic ward due to a dislocation and multiple fractures of limb, i was told conflicting diagnosis by 3 different members of staff and whilst i rang twice at later date to find out what was happening i was told by the staff that she didn't really know what I was asking as not nurse looking after him, not reassuring, also on another date previously in the a&e department he was told nothing wrong with his back and sent home only to receive a call to say may have fractured spine, on returning was told by nurse practitioner that had degenerative arthritis, then after visiting our gp and still in agony she ordered a mri only to discover he has 3 fractures of the spine!!! Whilst the ward seems to run efficiently specific feedback to families would be beneficial as sometimes patients are on a lot of medication and cant always be specific in relaying this, and it is important that we know what is happening, as is quite distressing seeing your loved one in a state, I'm now at the point of not asking cause whats the point! however i did get more information put of the physio who visited the ward than anyone else, so well done to him was very informative.

We are extremely sorry to hear that you and your partner are unhappy about the quality of care received on one of the orthopaedic wards. It would be really helpful if we could look into this for you to try and resolve the issues you have raised. Please contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Team if you would like to speak to someone: pals@chs.northy.nhs.uk or freephone 0800 587 6513
