"Great acute care in A&E, JAMA and AMU at St James's"

I was admitted via A&E, referred there by my GP after I had become acutely unwell over a few days.

The care I received in A&E was superb - I was hooked up to drips and getting the treatment I needed very quickly after arriving.

I then spent a night in JAMA (a short stay assessment unit) in my own cubicle. The nurses couldn't have been nicer and more helpful to my partner and I - cups of tea, sandwiches, extra blankets - it's the little things that make it bearable when you're ill. While it's not officially a 'ward', it was a very peaceful and reassuring place to be.

I then spent 2 days on J29 - one of the Acute Medical Unit wards. The staff there are amazing. Nurses and HCAs are confident, calm and work in an atmosphere that is caring and supportive towards patients and each other. The unit was full but they still never made me feel like a nuisance. Small but important things like keeping water jugs full were done extremely well. Attention to hygiene was excellent. Medication was done on time, and observations were carried out as scheduled - these are the kinds of things that I often see slip on busy wards and it was a great reassurance to know that they were on top of them.

The Dr who took charge of my care made every possible effort to ensure that longer-term community support was put in place to help me to avoid acute admissions in future - so they didn't just patch me up and ship me out, they enrolled me into the services I'll need ongoing help from too.

The only disappointment I have is with my discharge letter. It does contain everything it needs to, but also contains some sensitive information which wasn't written with much thought or consideration, and I'm not sure needed to be included. I'm hopeful that this is a simple clerical error by the doctor who summarised the notes for the letter and will be corrected without too much fuss.

The Jr Doctor who wrote the discharge letter actually corrected it for me within a week or so of me contacting the ward about it. So - we're all resolved (very impressed by how fast they did it), but thank you so much for offering to sort it out.
