"My partner was admitted to Nidderdale ..."

About: Harrogate District Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

My partner was admitted to Nidderdale ward after presenting with gall bladder problems. I should like to thank all the doctors & in particular the nursing staff for the truly excellent care given during her time in the hospital. The staff were unfailingly pleasant, caring & efficient during her stay. Again many thanks

What could be improved

The ward was, probably of necessity, quite noisy at times & this doesn't help if all you want to do is sleep when you are unwell. Difficult to see what could be done to improve this without all the rooms being private

Many thanks for taking the time to post your comments on the Choices website regarding the experiences of your partner at Harrogate District Hospital. I am pleased to hear that your partner received a high standard of care during their stay.

The trust does appreciate that wards can be busy places and often bustling with activity and this can create noise. We do have a protected meal times initiative in place and patient rest periods on most wards so patients can eat their meals undisturbed and for activity to cease so there can be more quieter times. So far the response to this from patients has been very good. Work is also underway to refurbish some of our older wards in the hospital and with the help of patients and members of the public we have been finding out their views and this has meant looking at the possibility of creating some wards that comprise a majority of single rooms. As this work is still in progress I can’t tell you at this time what the outcome will be, but this is something we have been looking at in detail.

Best wishes
