I had a knee replacement at the Fitzwilliam in mid-December. Everything about my stay was excellent. The accommodation, staff, medical care, surgeon and food where all first class. My problem was that I needed Physio after discharge. I live 50 miles from the hospital and was told that I would be able to have my Physio at Boston West Hospital only 14 miles away. This did not happen due to the only Physiotherapist that could deal with me was on holiday for the whole of January. I had to travel 1 ½ hours each way for 25 minutes physio which was of below average quality and gave me no relief from the muscular pain I was in. It really came down to an assessment of movement progress. When the Boston West hospital was available for physio the first day was fully booked as no one from the Fitzwilliam had bothered to book me in. I then found out it was only available one day a week. So here I am after nearly 5 weeks after being discharged and having only 2 appointments left without treatment. I did contact Boston West Hospital about my problem but that was 4 days ago and no reply yet. I have now made arrangements myself to have Private Physio at my own expense as I can’t wait any longer. This needs addressing I should not have to make my own arrangements and pay myself for something the hospital will charge the NHS for. Some people might not be a lucky as me and be able to sort out and pay for Private Physio treatment.
