My 9 year old suffered a horrible facial cut from above his mouth all the way through his lip having run into a barbed wire fence in the dark. After a lenghthy wait in casualty in Bedford on a Friday evening we were refered to the Lister on Saturday for a 7:30am appointment. It is fair to say that the professional and kind care and attention he received from the ward staff and surgical team will be remembered by us as parents for a long time. More importantly our son is likely to benefit facially from this care for the rest of his life as it looks likely that scarring will be minimal (I'm back tomorrow so will find out more then but the stitches are tiny). What stood out was the level of consultation and management of our expectations by the surgical team (it was a general anaesthetic). Most notable was the amount of time they spent explaining to him what was about to happen and why it was necessary. This made it a much calmer, less psychologically (as well as physically) scarring experience for a 9 year old. Yes we ended up spending a very long day there but frankly what's a day for a lifetime of benefit? So thank you. We were impressed.
"Big thanks to Bluebell Ward and the Plastic..."
